magazine tucked in my door when i came home from work last night.
i guess weve been away from the kh long enough for only a handful of them to know where we live.
I found an Awake! Magazine tucked in my door when I came home from work last night. I guess weve been away from the KH long enough for only a handful of them to know where we live. They even left a handbill with meeting times inside and one of those tracts asking us if we want to know more about the Bible. Hmmm, I think thats what helped us away from the JWs, learning more about the Bible.

in every kingdom hall, there seems to be that one family that always irritates you.
in our hall there is this one family that thinks they have been blessed by jehovah himself because nearly all of the children became either bethelites, traveling overseers,or elders.their comments always have that tone which is condescending.
they always give their "wonderful experiences" of how they helped 2000 people in the "truth".
I am the black sheep of that family....at least half of my family, fortunately for me, lives very, very far away...my dad is PO of his congregation, my brother and his wife pioneers. I think they thought they were encouraging us when they shared their experiences. It had the exact opposite effect. It made them look more arrogant, self-centered, self-righteous. And since Rocky and I have never been full time pioneers, servants, etc. we just looked even more pitiful to them because we never ever could come close to having experiences like theirs. I rather like being the black sheep...keeps their arrogant selves away from us. We wouldn't want to soil them now would we?

magazine printed an article on pages 3-8 entitled "second thoughts about a college education.
Whoa and wait a minute! Just because you live in the dorms it doesn't mean you are going to lose all control of your values! Neither of my daughters are Dubs. Both are in college, both in dorms, not in the same school - so they aren't helping each other stick to 'values.' You don't need the fear of WT to keep you from drunkeness, doing drugs, promiscuity, etc. They are both motivated to contribute to the community. Can't do that very well flipping burgers or cleaning toilets for minimum wage. They didn't go 'off the deep end' with the partying business when they started school, don't expect they ever will. So whoever said that dorm life would be a bad influence is misinformed. If your kids want trouble they will find it, whether they are in the Borg or out! Being out does not create a breeding ground for misbehaviour.

the latest (oct.22,2002) is no excception.. on the final page inside, it quotes from a review of a book called "inviting disater -.

I remember somewhere reading or being told that JWs have the equivalent of a college education because of the information provided in Awake/WT magazines. When my daughter was attending community college she said that a person only needed an 8th grade or less reading level to read/understand the magazines and that most of them could be summed up very simply - all problems are solved by God's Kingdom but in the meantime, pray more, attend all meetings, study, do what the elders tell you to do. They are so gullible!

Hullo Jeff T - I have one kid at school at WSU and one kid at school at UW. Needless to say I am not going to the Apple Cup this year. I would have to sit on the 50 yard line right in the middle of the field! It's like WWIII...there are others in this little town who have kids at both colleges, they are saying the same thing. If the game were won strictly on school spirit the Cougs would win hands down over UW. But you're right about not playing a real team yet. The Idaho Vandals are just a little bit better than high school football. But at least the kids have fun at the games.

number 1 son is in australia.. number 2 son has a career, and next week moves into his own flat.. number 3 son leaves for uni at the end of the month.. our parenting days are coming to an end.
it's a strange feeling.
some excitement at the freedom, some sadness.. i'll keep you posted.. englishman.

Rocky and I are also just now 'just the 2 of us.' Number one daughter will be at the University in two weeks, is vacationing with friends right now. Number two daughter is already at the University (different schools, hundreds of miles apart). They call it 'empty nest' around here. Kind of like it. They've kept me so busy over the past couple of years. I have been looking forward to some peace and quiet, time at home watching my sunsets, having coffee at a leisurely pace - and getting the house clean and it staying that way! Rocky has other ideas about being alone, hee hee hee.

ok everyone...what is everyones opinion on terrorism...i myself, feel that something else is going to happen, possibly on 9/11/02....what is everyone else's thoughts....not necessarily the same as mine...but does anyone think another attack will come?
if so what do you think, and when?

The American public leans toward apathy and complacency. This country is at war, or at least that's what I remember being announced a year ago. Most countries at war have some pretty heavy duty restrictions to personal freedom. But we here have very slight reductions in our freedom. So yep, we have it good (some better than others), and we want to remember why we have it so good and not take these freedoms for granted. A lot of very nice people have died so we can live so well. Even the poorest impoverished person in the USA is better off than most people in developing countries.

in the background were numerous us flags, and of course, prior to the match, the williams sisters were there and standing while various patriotic songs were played (oh, that's right....they were already standing since they had to walk out onto the court....guess that's okay).
while watching all that i could not help but think of all the jw youths who have been told that they could not particicpate in organized sports at school or otherwise.
to Orbiting and Guest - you do have a point about the 'not judging' stuff. But in the real world my kid has suffered because of the inconsistent application of guidelines and rules. I don't wish the Williams sisters any harm, and it's great they can make money doing something they like, wish we could all make that kind of money doing what we like. It's just that I have to deal with the real world emotional scarsleft on my daughter. It's hard to explain double standards to a teenager, especially when they are battling loneliness and trying to develop some social skills they didn't have to have in the Borg.

monday: family bible study (this is when i would get yelled at for not reading the scriptures properly) .
tuesday: meeting night .
wednesday: i`m free .
Monday - prepare for school, service mtg parts
Tuesday - theo school/service meeting
Wednesday - service in the evening, or prepare for bookstudy
Thursday - book study
Friday - free, or prepare presentation for service
Saturday - service and prestudy WT
Sunday - study WT if hadn't done on Saturday, attend public talk, WT study
Add to this for the years we had the piano in the Hall, hours of practicing piano for the Tuesday and Sunday meetings. This was the part I really enjoyed. Lost a part of me when they went to canned music!
I delight in my Sunday mornings now. I love the fact that I don't have to rush away from work in a hurry and can have leisurely dinners on Tuesday and Thursdays. And I can volunteer for some community help things and not be prohibited by meeting attendance.

My youngest played tennis all four years of high school. She was not baptized, but had not made 'worldly' kids her best friends, was a pillar in the congregation as far as meeting participation, comments, fields service, conduct. She was shunned/avoided by the kids in the hall. Fortunately for her we stopped going to meetings after her first year in tennis - didn't seem to make a difference if we were there or not. She has been shunned in and out of the Organization. So when I see the Williams sisters in the limelight focusing on their religion it really bothers me. I know the Dubs are falling all over themselves because these girls publicly acknowledge their association with the Witnesses but someone like my daughter was less than a speck of dirt on the carpet. Just my two cents.....
